Rob is doing great. Every day he is improving, and he is able to enjoy some of life’s simple pleasures.
Rob’s parents Ger and Tonny came up from the south of Holland for a visit today. It was a tiring trip for them, but I think they all loved to see each other. Rob received a beautiful quartz owl from them and we all enjoyed time just hanging out together. What a difference for them to see him after being here last when he was in intensive care.
Rob was finally able to eat some Ben & Jerry’s ice-cream. He had tears in his eyes after 90 days of a liquid diet thorough his nose. He also had a big craving for a Sprite, which I’ve never seen him drink before. After his first big slug he said “it’s even better than beer!”. He is slowly increasing eating normal food, and even had a coffee today. He can’t wait to get the nose tube out, and we hope that happens in the coming days.
He had his first shower today and felt and looked great after it. And “yes”, to those of you have commented that his hair looks more red, it definitely does. I bought him a new swimsuit for when he goes to rehab, but was worried that it was a bit big. The nurses were very nice and helped him to model it. I wish I had a picture, because he had these abstract patterned “boardshorts” and a stripey shirt and made a wonderful “I’m Too Sexy” pose for us. He is swimming in them now, but hopefully he will grow into them in short order.
He is also able to get around much better now, and that should be increasing every day. I am hoping we hear in the coming days about going to rehabilitation. I think he has enough strength to do really well now, and he is VERY motivated and wants to get started quick! “What are we waiting for” is what Rob says — indeed.
I’m brining his trainers in tomorrow because they want to try to get him standing up a bit. I’m also going to bring some of his Levi’s and normal clothes, which I think will make him feel much better too.
I hope you don’t mind me posting so much. It’s just so exciting to see him doing so well and we are both celebrating every moment of it!
Yippee!! Thats all I I can say.Whoopie. Welcome back Rob. I am so happy to welcome you home. I know you have a long row to hoe yet but it appears your over the hump and I am so so happy for you. I can’t wait for the day we can get together again.

I am so relieved – and it appears the worst is over. Considering all that Rob has been through, he really looks great!!!! Eating Ben and Jerry’s always helps me gain weight so I’m sure it will do the same for Rob… ; }

Ellyn, please keep posting, its all the great news we’ve been waiting so long for. Can’t get enough details. The photos are a nice touch, I want the one in the swimmers!
We are in Tanger now, have finally left the Med and it feels like a big step.
We will reserve a place for you two at the Brasil carnaval in February.
We’d love the post to be often! (providing you can find the time!!) It lifts our spirits!! So keep posting Ellyn, it feels like being part of the recovery process especially for the folks living away from Holland! I am (we are) soooo happy to see Rob up and about and to see him with our parents!

What fantastic news Ellie. You must be so happy with so much to be thankful for and a future looking brighter every day. I’m still thinking the first beer will surpass the sprite! Can’t wait to find out.
If the weather is nice tomorrow, as it is suppose to be, we will be bringing Rob outside for another visit with Jansen. I’m going to bring clothes from home so he smells like Rob. The last time Jansen visited he was really freaked out because he smelled so different.
Thanks for posting often! I don’t mind in the least & it’s fun to come home to read them after a long day of sawing, hammering, sweating, & watching the beautiful clouds pass over the slowly turning leaves. It’s been hot & dry here. Hope the weather is dandy there, too, and that Robe gets out to enjoy it often.
